International Women’s Day (Sunday 8th March) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality. International Women’s Day has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people.

Many countries are still far away from achieving gender equality. The theme of this campaign is for the next generation of women and girl leaders and activists to inspire others to mobilize global action to achieve gender equality and human rights.

We are extremely proud that we have a team of strong, independent young women here at Step Forward Tuition.

To mark the day and hopefully inspire and encourage young women, we thought we would give you some information about some of the females that work at our Tuition Centre.

Aimee: Aimee is a 24 year old MA, BA and Cambridge graduate with qualifications in English Language, Teaching English as a Second Language and Education Studies. She is the owner of Step Forward Tuition and the English and maths tutor for KS1 through to Adult functional skills. Additionally, she despite has two young children to care for on top of all this work. Aimee also completed her first degree when pregnant and then when on to study her masters degree 1 month after having her first child. She hasn’t let family life interfere with her business or education, instead she has found a way to successfully combine them all. This just shows how you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it.

Shantay: Shantay is a 23 year old Biomedical Science student, which eventually will lead to her becoming a heart surgeon. Shantay is the tutor of GCSE maths and science, A-level sciences and A-level maths. The world is crying out for more women in STEM jobs as males dominate the medical profession at a higher level. Shantay is an excellent role model and we hope that she can inspire the next generation with her love of science.

Ellie: Ellie is 15 years old and is the receptionist and social media assistant. She is currently studying for her GCSE’s. She enjoys working alongside such inspirational women and is inspired by their stories.

All of the women that work at Step Forward Tuition are very different; they are different races, have different beliefs and different backgrounds. But one thing remains the same, they are female. We want to show that no matter who you are, where you come from or whatever you believe, you are capable of achieving your dreams no matter how big or small.

Remember girls, you can be whoever you want to be.
