I began tutoring Gabi in September 2018 in preparation for his 11 plus Grammar School entry exam. He dreamt of going to Bury or Bolton Grammar School and his sheer determination to get there shone through!
We got to work and it became clear that his maths knowledge was exceptional and his literacy ability wasn’t far behind! Don’t get me wrong, there were still areas to work on, however it became apparent that more work needed to be spent on spelling, synonyms and antonyms, verbal and non-verbal reasoning. Anybody having taken the 11 plus exam will know how difficult the verbal and non-verbal reasoning papers are – most adults would struggle!
We got stuck in and did 2 hours of tuition every week for 4 months focusing on these areas. Gabi completed his homework every week and put so much effort into his studies, despite having many other commitments such as Chinese lessons and football. Towards the end of the 4 months I had no doubt in my mind that he would pass the entrance exams for the grammar schools.
February arrived and I received the news that Gabi had passed the exams with flying colours for BOTH Grammar Schools and had been offered a place at them both!
Well done Gabi! You truly deserve to attend grammar school and with your determination, you can achieve anything! I am honoured that I could be a part of your grammar school journey and wish you all the best for the future.
